A Christian Writer’s Devotional Reflection
This Week’s Brief Reflection
“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong…but time and chance happen to them all. For man also does not know his time.” Ecclesiastes 9:11-12
We know that God sees the big picture. He has a plan. But as Solomon points out in the above passage, when our eyes look at life…well, life is uncertain! No man knows what tomorrow holds. Frankly, sometimes that reality gets a person down and fear and depression creep in to pillage the heart. We fret in anticipation of what the day “might” hold. Will it be joy or sorrow, triumph or tragedy, good times or bad times, ups or downs?
But let us look at it another way, accepting the uncertainty of life as a positive. For me, the only way I handle the uncertainty of life is to look at it through the eyes of faith. “Lord, my life is in your care, and I put my tomorrow in your hands. If it’s good I will praise you. If it is hard I will lean on you. If it is tragic I will cry out to you.”
I rest in the fact that God is faithful, that He is “for” me! And if He is for me, I can step into tomorrow with confidence!
Psalm 56:8-11 – You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. Verse 9b – This I know: God is on my side! Verse 10 – I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the Lord for what he has promised. Verse 11a – I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? (NLT)
Psalm 37:7 – Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret… Verse 8 – Do not fret — it only causes harm. (NKJV)
Psalm 46:10 – Be still, and know that I am God. (NKJV)
Hebrews 13:5 – He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NKJV)
Although life is uncertain, we can be certain that God is in control and we are in His hand. Resting in Him we can face uncertain tomorrow with peace in our hearts.
